Kathy’s History

Hello!  My name is Kathy Merrell.  I grew up in Hanover, Ma and graduated with an A.S. degree in Animal Science in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in Amherst, Mass.  I  later moved to Sauquoit, New York (located in Mohawk Vally, 8 miles from Utica) to help run my family dairy farm.  I have 2 children Erik a paramedic, and daughter Megan in financial services.
 
My horse activities include being a 4-H horse club member and leader in both MA and NY. Have been involved with Theauputic Riding Program with Upstate Cebral Palsy for 20 years as a volunteer. Presently own two ranch broke grade QH geldings that are used for trail riding and horse camping. I am a member of AQHA and involved in the other breed riding program that they sponsor. I like to attend horse events. I have volunteered my services as ring steward at Herkimer County Fair, and have been active in past years in various farm organizations. My grandmother bought me my first pony when I was 5, because I drove her crazy wanting one, and have had a horse in my life ever since. I would be lost without one.  Most of my vacations and free time have revolved around horses or horse activities.
 
I am currently employed as a Pharmacy Technician in a chain store pharmacy. I have also worked in the Agricultural field as a 4-H Program assistant, marketed beef for a local farm group, and a dairy farmer.
 
My other interests include Outdoors, Reading, Riding, the Old West, Writing,  and I especially like meeting new people and seeing new places.

 My job on this trail ride is to document the ride, support the ground crew, responsible for food, animals, supplies, and acting as the Public Affairs Officer.  I hope to make it enjoyable and eventful.
